Pro-active Approach to Web Marketing Necessary for Any Company’s Growth

web design“The problem is there are no simple ‘right’ answers for most web design questions (at least not for the important ones). What works is good, integrated design that fills a need — carefully thought out, well executed, and tested,” Steve Krug points out in his book A Common Sense Approach to Web Usability.

The reality is that great web design matters for companies today. Not just companies focused on majority-web products and services, either: there is mounting evidence for the case that a pro-active approach to web marketing is necessary for overall company growth and profit through 2014 and beyond.

Take the growing size of the eCommerce market as just one example. The global eCommerce market is expected to experience a compound annual growth rate of 13.5% between 2013 and 2018. “With the increasing usage of and trust in the internet and electronic devices, people are gradually changing their spending patterns,” the Fort Mill Times points out.

If it’s become obvious to you that your company needs better website support, then here are three things you need to keep in mind as you search for website design companies.

1. Know What Consumers Look for in a Professional Website
How will you recognize the best website designs if you don’t know what you’re looking for? Now might be a good time to give yourself a crash course in consumer preference and trust when it comes to websites. Did you know that a recent study by Kikstore discovered that 90% of online consumers have, at some point, failed to completed a transaction out of fear of becoming the victim of a scam? Having an easy-to-read layout, smooth typography, and personable but professional graphics are all steps you can take for assuring consumers that your business is legitimate, rather than fly-by-night.

2. Mobile eCommerce
Did you know that, in the next 10 years, smartphones are predicted to surpass desktops as the main source of internet usage? Already, U.S. consumers spend more time on retailers’ websites using mobile devices than with computers, indicating that the relationship between mobile and online revenue will become only stronger in the upcoming years. Sites that are not well optimized for mobile tend to load slowly, be difficult for people to view, and have information not accessible to devices (such as PDF files). Your best option here is responsive web design, which allows your website to appear correctly on any screen.

3. Search Engine Optimization
Google processes billions of inquiries every week — it’s no surprise that Google search rankings can have a big impact on company profits, especially considering that most consumers are now using search in place of a traditional phone book. Search engine optimization, or SEO, is something you should always keep in mind, and it can be a part of your website from its very inception. For example: did you know that just having original descriptions helps SEO? When you copy/paste product listings, Google has to choose which site is more likely to be of value to the consumer, and they’re likely going to pick the original website. Having unique content, a blog, great code, and well indexed pages are all important.
