Understanding Web 2.0 and 3.0

Understanding web 2.0 and 3.0

Web 2.0 added a new dimension to the original intention of the internet.  Content used to be a one-way street between site creators and site visitors.  With 2.0 visitors to a website can also become content contributors.   In other words, people can now share information and collaborate as we see with social media platforms and video sharing sites rather than just read or watch what is made available to them.

Web 3.0 relates to the “depth” and specificity of your search results.  Your browser will compile information based on previous searches to organize search results in a way that understands YOU.  This personalization of content will be multi-layered with use of mobile applications.

Web 4.0 is a bit hard to define as of yet.  There is a lot of speculation but one thing is clear, it will be a unique style of interaction between humans and technology that is so streamlined it will feel as if the technology is a personal assistant.  It is estimated that RFID (radio frequency identification tags) and GPS systems will develop capabilities to alert you when you’re running low on certain items you regularly purchase, or suggest what you might like for lunch.  Using a device will feel more like communicating with a friend.
